Innovator Visa

 

The Innovator visa is for experienced business persons seeking to establish a new business in the UK.

Who can apply for a Start-Up/Innovator Visa?

In order for your business proposal to be endorsed, an approved endorsing body will need to be satisfied that your business idea meets all of the following criteria:

Start-Up Visa: If you have an entrepreneurial mindset and a business idea, have not previously established a business in the UK, received an endorsement from a recognized body in the last 3 months, and can speak English at B2 level (IELTS 5.5) you can apply for the Start-Up Visa.

 

Innovator Visa: If you have an innovative business idea backed with at least £50,000 investment, have not previously established a business in the UK, received an endorsement from a recognized body in the last 3 months, and can speak English at B2 level (IELTS 5.5) you can apply for the Innovator Visa.

  • Innovation: You have a genuine, original business plan that meets new or existing market needs and/or creates a competitive advantage;
  • Viability: You have, or are actively developing, the necessary skills, knowledge, experience, and market awareness to successfully run the business;
  • Scalability: Your business plan has potential for job creation and growth into national markets.

The endorsing body will also need to be satisfied that you will spend the majority of your working time in the UK on your business.

Yes, you may apply with your team to start the same, shared business. But keep in mind that your endorsing body should be endorsing all of you before you can apply for the visa.

How long can we stay with Start-Up Visa?

The Start-Up Visa is granted for 2 years. Unfortunately, you can not extend your Start-Up Visa beyond this duration. However, you may be able to switch to an Innovator visa without needing to show the £50,000 investment or you could switch to another immigration category to stay in the UK after 2 years. (Such as Skilled Worker Visa)

Can I be employed by someone else with Start-Up Visa?

Yes, your Start-Up visa will allow you to undertake other work while also running your start-up. However, If your endorsing body decides that you are not giving proper attention to your business, they may revoke your sponsorship and you may lose your visa. If your business doesn’t progress enough in 2 years which were granted, you may be refused if you make an application to switch to Innovator Visa.

Can we apply as a team for Innovator Visa?

Yes, you may apply with your team to start the same, shared business. But keep in mind that your endorsing body should be endorsing all of you before you can apply for the visa.

How long can we stay with Innovator Visa?

You are granted 3 years leave to reamın with innovator visa if your visa application is successful. If you fulfil the requirements for indefinite leave to remain, you may apply for settlement after 3 years.

Can I be employed by someone else during Innovator visa?

You can start other businesses and work on them while on an Innovator Visa. However, you may not work for another employer as an employee while you are on Innovator Visa.
